Telecommunications operators

Telecommunications operators in Nigeria have pledged to improve the quality of service across the country, assuring subscribers of more reliable connectivity, faster data speeds and fewer network disruptions.

The commitment was made at a recent industry engagement involving major network providers and regulators, where operators acknowledged persistent customer complaints over dropped calls, slow internet access and service outages. They attributed many of the challenges to infrastructure deficits, rising operational costs and vandalism of telecom facilities.

According to industry representatives, ongoing investments are being channelled into network expansion, fibre deployment and the upgrade of existing base stations to enhance nationwide coverage, particularly in underserved rural communities. They also promised improved customer support systems to address complaints more promptly.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) welcomed the assurances, stressing that operators would be held accountable to service quality benchmarks. The regulator reiterated its resolve to enforce compliance with standards and protect consumers from subpar service delivery.

Operators further appealed to federal and state governments to support the sector through the protection of critical telecom infrastructure and the harmonisation of taxes and levies, which they said would free up resources for network improvements.

Consumer advocacy groups, while welcoming the promises, urged telecom companies to translate words into measurable improvements, noting that subscribers have endured years of inconsistent service.

The renewed pledge comes amid growing dependence on digital services for business, education and governance, increasing pressure on telecom providers to deliver efficient and resilient networks nationwide.
