Vice President Kashim Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has welcomed Schoolnet India Ltd and Learnet Skills Ltd’s proposal to introduce KYAN smart class technology in Nigerian schools, directing the companies to work with federal officials to assess and localise the package for the country’s education system.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday while receiving a delegation led by the firms’ Managing Director/CEO, Mr. RCM Reddy, Shettima said the all-in-one smart class solution featuring interactive digital content, a projector, camera and smart board capabilities could significantly enhance teaching and learning if adapted to Nigeria’s curriculum and classroom realities.

Shettima described KYAN as a rugged, scalable device capable of serving large classroom sizes, noting that its deployment would be more cost-effective than providing tablets for individual students. He emphasised that the primary and secondary school levels stand to benefit most from the innovation.

The Vice President asked the companies to collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to integrate local content and align the technology with indigenous models already operating in states like Edo and Enugu. He recalled his experience deploying KYAN during his tenure as Borno State Governor, saying it helped improve learning outcomes across basic and tertiary institutions.

Earlier, Schoolnet India CEO Reddy said the firm was inspired by Nigeria’s push for technology-driven classrooms, explaining that KYAN described as a “school in a box” comes preloaded with digital teaching materials for grades 1 to 10 and can function with or without internet access. The package, he added, uses AI where connectivity exists and is designed to upgrade teacher performance.

Reddy confirmed the company’s readiness to develop a Nigeria-specific version of the solution, incorporating local language, curriculum and community needs. He noted that the product had been implemented previously in Borno, where teachers were trained to use it.

He assured that a customised deployment plan would be produced in collaboration with the federal government, promising significant impact on teaching quality when the ecosystem is fully integrated.
