AbdulRazaq explained that the budget framework was crafted in line with the state’s development plan and reflects prudent fiscal management amid rising costs and revenue constraints. He stressed the need for sustained investment in human capital development, describing education and healthcare as foundational to long-term growth and social stability.
The governor also highlighted agriculture as a key driver of economic diversification, noting that increased funding would support farmers through improved access to inputs, extension services, and rural infrastructure. He added that investments in road construction and rehabilitation would focus on both urban and rural connectivity to stimulate commerce and ease the movement of goods and people.
On revenue projections, AbdulRazaq said the state intends to strengthen internally generated revenue through reforms, improved efficiency, and the expansion of the tax net without imposing undue burdens on residents. He assured lawmakers that borrowing would remain cautious and targeted at projects with clear economic and social returns.
The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, in his response, commended the governor for timely presentation of the appropriation bill and assured that the legislature would subject the proposal to thorough scrutiny in the interest of the people. He said relevant committees would engage with ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure transparency, accountability, and value for money.
Lawmakers present at the session pledged to work collaboratively with the executive to pass a budget that addresses the needs of Kwarans and supports sustainable development.
The 2026 appropriation bill is expected to undergo second reading and committee review in the coming weeks, after which it will be debated and considered for passage into law.
