The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State to remain united and work collectively toward securing victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu made the appeal in Umuahia while reviewing the conduct of the rescheduled ward congresses of the party ahead of the local government congresses scheduled to hold on Thursday in the state capital.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the Deputy Speaker stressed that unity among party members was critical to achieving electoral success, warning that internal divisions could undermine the party’s chances in future contests.

He urged party faithful across the state to cooperate fully with the Congress Committee overseeing the exercise, which is headed by former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Emmanuel Go’ar.

According to Kalu, collaboration with the committee members would ensure a smooth and credible process capable of strengthening the party’s structure at the grassroots level.

He told stakeholders that peace and cohesion within the party must be prioritised, noting that the national leadership was closely observing developments in Abia State.

“There’s nothing like peace. Let’s stay united and achieve our goal. The President is watching and he is happy with what we are doing,” Kalu was quoted as saying.

The Deputy Speaker described the ward congresses as a significant step toward consolidating the party’s base and preparing for the next phase of internal exercises.

He maintained that building a strong and united structure at ward and local government levels would enhance the APC’s readiness for the 2027 elections.

Kalu also commended party members for their conduct during the rescheduled ward congresses, expressing optimism that the same spirit of cooperation would be sustained during the forthcoming local government congresses.

In his appraisal of the exercise, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Go’ar, praised the Deputy Speaker and other stakeholders for what he described as their outstanding efforts in ensuring a peaceful and successful process.

He noted that reports from across the state reflected positively on the conduct of the congresses, adding that media coverage, both print and electronic, had highlighted the orderly nature of the exercise.

Go’ar said the positive headlines demonstrated that the party in Abia was moving in the right direction and setting a standard for internal democracy and collaboration.

He further encouraged party members to maintain the momentum as the congress process continues, emphasising that unity and discipline would be essential in strengthening the party’s prospects.

The APC in Abia State has in recent weeks undertaken efforts to stabilise its internal structures following the rescheduling of its ward congresses.

Party leaders say the ongoing exercises are aimed at consolidating grassroots support and positioning the APC as a formidable force in the state ahead of future electoral contests.

Observers believe the outcome of the local government congresses will further shape the party’s organisational strength as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
