D'Tigress

The Nigerian women basketball team, known as D’Tigress, has released a provisional squad for an upcoming qualifying tournament. The team will travel to Lyon in France for the competition. The event will take place from March 11 to March 17.

Head coach Rena Wakama selected a mixture of experienced players and young talents for the games. The team will play against France, Germany, South Korea, Colombia and the Philippines during the tournament.

Some of the experienced stars on the team list include Amy Okonkwo, Sarah Ogoke, Promise Amukamara and Ezinne Kalu.

The coach also included younger players like Pius Idubano, Adenike Olawuyi, Grace Efosa, Rita Igbokwe, Wandoo Hemba and Tewogbade Mololuwa.

Nigeria will start the campaign by playing against Colombia on March 11. They will face South Korea the next day.

The team will then play against the Philippines on March 14, France on March 15 and Germany on March 17. The top three teams in the group will move to the next stage.

D’Tigress already secured an automatic spot for the 2026 FIBA Women Basketball World Cup in Berlin. They achieved this when they won the 2025 Women AfroBasket competition.

The team will use this qualifying tournament in France to prepare properly and build better team connections before the main global event in September 2026.
