Governor Dauda Lawal has abolished cash-based revenue collection in Zamfara State, mandating a full transition to electronic payment platforms across ministries and agencies.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, forms part of a broader transparency and accountability drive.

Under the new policy, all taxes, levies, and government service payments must be processed through approved digital channels. Officials say the move aims to curb leakages, eliminate middlemen, and enhance internally generated revenue.

Governor Lawal described the reform as a critical step toward modernising public finance management. He emphasised that digital systems would ensure accurate record-keeping and reduce opportunities for corruption.

The state government has partnered with financial institutions and fintech firms to provide secure platforms for transactions. Training programmes are also underway to equip civil servants with necessary digital skills.

Economic analysts commend the policy, noting that cashless systems promote efficiency and broaden the tax base. However, they stress the need for reliable internet infrastructure to guarantee seamless implementation.

The reform marks a significant shift in Zamfara’s fiscal operations, with authorities expressing confidence that it will strengthen public trust and boost revenue performance.
