Wike Loyalists Dominate PDP & APC Slates in Rivers LGA Elections: Full Candidate Lineup
Wike Loyalists Dominate PDP & APC Slates in Rivers LGA Elections: Full Candidate Lineup
Supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have captured the majority of party nominations for the upcoming August 30, 2025 Rivers State local government elections, securing key chairmanship and councillorship slots across both the PDP and APC platforms.
Ikwerre LGA: APC Chairmanship Seal
In Ikwerre Local Government Area, Charles Wobodo, a known Wike ally, clinched the APC chairmanship ticket by winning 64 out of 65 votes in an electronic primary. In his acceptance remarks, Wobodo expressed heartfelt gratitude:
“Thank you to the APC leadership and stakeholders of Ikwerre. Your support proves that hard work pays off. I pledge to deliver purposeful leadership in the upcoming election.”
Other Wike-Backed Candidates: Across LGAs
More Wike loyalists have emerged as party nominees across other major LGAs:
Dr. Chidi Liyod – PDP chairmanship candidate, Emuoha
Dr. Thomas Bariere – PDP candidate, Khana
Hon. Confidence Dekor – PDP for Gokana
Mbakpone Okpe – PDP candidate, Tai
Akuro Tobin – APC candidate, Okrika
Allwell Ihunda – PDP nominee, Port Harcourt City
Onengiyeofori George – PDP nominee, Asari Toru
Additional nominees include:
Shedrack Chukwu – Okrika
Uchechukwu Obasi – Omuma
Michael Williams – Degema
Okechukwu Akara – Oyigbo
Abinye Blessing Pepple – Bonny
Vincent Nemioboka – Ogu/Bolo
Hon. Chima Njoku – Etche
Each candidate is aligned with Wike’s political camp, effectively consolidating his influence across both major parties.
APC Disowns Some Nominations
However, controversy arose from the APC state branch led by Chief Emeka Beke, which rejected these candidate lists. Party spokesperson Darrington Nwauju argued:
“Our constitution and primaries do not permit gifting party flags or endorsing individuals not registered or recognized within the party. There’s no legitimacy to these nominations.”
The APC’s rebuttal sets the stage for potential legal and administrative friction ahead of the polls.
