WAEC Temporarily Pulls 2025 WASSCE Results After Detecting Technical Glitches

LAGOS — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has suspended online access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates, citing technical faults linked to a new anti-exam malpractice measure.

In a statement released Thursday, Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the decision followed an internal review that uncovered “technical bugs” in results processed under a recently introduced paper serialisation system.

The innovation, adopted in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics, was designed to deter cheating by giving candidates slightly different versions of the same paper. However, WAEC officials said the system produced unexpected glitches after Monday’s public release of the results by Amos Josiah Dangut, Head of the WAEC Nigeria Office.

“As part of our commitment to fairness and professionalism, we have temporarily disabled access to the results on the checking portal while we correct the identified errors,” the statement read.

WAEC apologised to candidates and the public, assuring that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours. Students who have already checked their results are urged to recheck them after the correction period.

The council stressed that the suspension is purely a quality-control measure and reaffirmed its pledge to excellence, fairness, and transparency in all assessments.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of all stakeholders as we address this matter urgently and with full transparency,” WAEC said.
