"Unnecessary Distractions: Shehu Sani Defends Matawalle, Ribadu Amid Banditry Criticism"

In a bold move, former Senator Shehu Sani has come to the defense of Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, who have faced recent criticism over their handling of banditry in Nigeria.

Sani, a vocal human rights activist, argues that the attacks on Matawalle and Ribadu are unnecessary distractions from the real issue at hand: fighting terrorism and banditry. The criticism, led by the Governor of Zamfara State and various groups, accuses Matawalle of maintaining ties with bandits plaguing the state.

However, Sani counters that there has been a significant decrease in banditry and terrorist attacks in the North West and North Central regions. "Why are some people not happy because bandit leaders are being targeted and eliminated?" he asks.

Matawalle and Ribadu, Sani asserts, are delivering on their mandates and making the North safer. He questions the whereabouts of those accusing the security chiefs of incompetence when people were slaughtered daily under the previous administration.

"Terrorism and banditry have not been completely wiped out, but there is serious improvement in the safety of citizens across the North West," Sani acknowledges. "Now that the war against terrorism is turning the tides against bandit leaders in the North West, the Chief of Defence Staff, Musa; Defence Minister of State, Matawalle; NSA, Ribadu, and others should remain focused and not distracted."

Sani's defense of Matawalle and Ribadu comes as the Minister of State for Defence faces mounting criticism. Matawalle has responded to the accusations, challenging his critics to swear by the Holy Quran to prove their innocence – a significant act in Islamic culture emphasizing the truthfulness of one's statement.

As the debate rages on, Sani's words serve as a call to action: "Any person genuinely interested in bringing an end to these evil kidnappers and mass murderers should support the current efforts and encourage them to do more, rather than embark on frivolous criticism."
