"UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer Denounces 'UK Protests asThuggery' Amidst Widespread Unrest
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has condemned the recent wave of violent anti-immigration protests across the country as "far-right thuggery." The unrest, which began after a tragic knife attack in Southport, has spread to various cities, resulting in numerous arrests, vandalism, and injuries to police officers.
Starmer emphasized that the perpetrators of the violence would face the full force of the law, stating, "I utterly condemn the far-right thuggery we've seen this weekend. Be in no doubt that those who have participated in this violence will face the full force of the law."
The protests have been fueled by misinformation surrounding the Southport attack, which claimed the lives of three young girls. Despite police assurances that the suspect was born in Britain and the incident is not being treated as a terrorist attack, anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups have seized on the tragedy to spread hate and incite violence.
Starmer stressed that the disorder was targeting individuals based on their skin color or faith, and that there was no justification for the violence. "It doesn't matter what apparent motivation there is. This is violence, this is not protest," he said.
The Prime Minister, who took office a month ago, expressed concern for the residents and staff who were in "absolute fear" from the "marauding gangs" in Rotherham. He emphasized that all right-minded people should condemn this sort of violence, stating, "There is no justification - none - for taking this action."
Protests have also been reported in other locations, including Aldershot, Middlesbrough, and Lancaster, with anti-racist protesters gathering to counter the anti-immigration demonstrations Police have been working to keep the two groups apart and maintain order."
