Troops Free Nine Kidnap Victims in Sokoto, Crush Terrorists in Zamfara Ambush

In a major breakthrough against terrorists in Nigeria’s troubled North-West, troops of Operation Fasin Yamma (OPFY) have rescued nine kidnapped victims in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State while neutralizing armed fighters in a fierce ambush in neighbouring Zamfara.

The Night Raid

According to military sources, the rescue took place on the night of September 31, 2025, after troops acting on credible intelligence intercepted terrorists moving captives along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road, a notorious route connecting Zamfara and Sokoto States.

When confronted, the terrorists attempted to use their abductees as human shields. But the soldiers pressed forward with a decisive assault, killing several gunmen while others escaped with injuries.

Lives Saved

Nine hostages — three adult women and six children abducted from Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni LGA — were freed in the operation. They were immediately evacuated to General Hospital, Shinkafi, for urgent medical checks before being handed over to Shinkafi LGA officials, who assured that reunions with their families would follow.

Weapons Seized

Recovered from the terrorists’ camp were:

1 AK-47 rifle with two magazines (20 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition)

1 motorcycle used for mobility

3 mobile phones

1 pair of desert camouflage uniforms

Army’s Assurance

The Nigerian Army hailed the operation as another step forward in dismantling terror networks across the North-West. It pledged to sustain “aggressive, intelligence-led operations” until insurgency, terrorism, and banditry are fully stamped out.

“The military remains resolute. With continued public support and timely intelligence, these criminal elements will be defeated, and lasting peace will return to the region,” the statement added.
