President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria delivered a powerful message on global collaboration and sustainable development during his address at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. Highlighting the theme of "From Climate Imperatives into Economic Prosperity: Bridging Africa with the Global Energy Future," Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for international cooperation to achieve a resilient and equitable world.
A Call for Global Synergy
Speaking on the second day of the summit, President Tinubu underscored Nigeria's commitment to working with other nations towards sustainable solutions. He stressed that tackling climate change requires collective action, knowledge sharing, and mutual support across borders.
"No single nation can achieve sustainability alone," Tinubu declared. "Global interconnectedness demands that we innovate, collaborate, and act decisively as a united global community."
Nigeria's Sustainable Vision
Outlining Nigeria's proactive stance, Tinubu highlighted actionable programs aligned with global expectations while addressing local realities. He emphasized three core pillars guiding Nigeria's efforts: Energy Transition, Climate Resilience, and Sustainable Development.
"Our vision includes reducing carbon emissions, promoting clean and renewable energy, and fostering environmental sustainability alongside economic growth," Tinubu explained. He detailed initiatives such as infrastructure development for Compressed Natural Gas and electric vehicles, harnessing solid minerals for green energy, and implementing climate-smart agricultural practices.
Leadership in Sustainable Practices
President Tinubu showcased Nigeria's leadership in environmental stewardship, citing initiatives like the National Clean Cooking Policy aimed at enhancing clean energy adoption and socio-economic benefits across Africa. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to combat environmental challenges such as deforestation, desertification, and coastal erosion.
Global Partnership for a Green Economy
Calling for international collaboration, Tinubu urged partner countries and multinational organizations to mobilize resources and support sustainable investments in Africa. He highlighted Nigeria's pioneering role in funding green projects through Sovereign Green Bonds, inviting global investors to join in these initiatives.
"To achieve a Green Economy in Africa, we must integrate sustainable practices across all sectors," Tinubu emphasized. "This requires robust international support and investment in advanced technologies to address our environmental challenges effectively."
Towards a Sustainable Future
President Tinubu concluded by commending the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates for organizing the summit. He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to fostering an enabling business environment and leveraging technology to drive environmental sustainability.
"As we move forward," Tinubu concluded, "let us embrace innovation, technology, and global partnership to secure a sustainable, prosperous, and equitable future for all."
Looking Ahead
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week continues to serve as a crucial platform for global leaders to exchange ideas and strategies in advancing sustainable development goals.
