Tension in Kaduna as Police Drag El-Rufai, ADC Leaders Into Probe Over “Conspiracy, Incitement”

Kaduna — A political storm is brewing in Kaduna State after the Police Command issued a formal summons to former governor Nasir El-Rufai and six senior figures of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what it described as allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and inflicting grievous harm.

The directive, contained in a letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID) Uzainu Abdullahi, compels the state chairman of the ADC to present El-Rufai and the named party leaders before investigators at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025.

Those pencilled down for questioning include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (aka “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (aka “Mikiya”).

The invitation, bluntly titled “Case of Criminal Conspiracy, Inciting Disturbance of Public Peace, Mischief and Causing Grievous Hurt,” stated that the party figures were needed to “clarify allegations” lodged by undisclosed complainants.

Although the petitioners remain unnamed, police authorities maintain the investigation is part of a wider push to forestall unrest in Kaduna, a state with a history of fragile peace and combustible politics.

For many observers, however, the development raises eyebrows. El-Rufai—once a central figure in national politics and now a prominent opposition voice—is rarely far from controversy. His being lumped into an alleged conspiracy case alongside party operatives has already stirred speculation about the political undertones of the summons.

Whether routine investigation or the opening shots of a larger political tussle, one thing is clear: September 8 could mark the start of a new flashpoint in Kaduna’s tense political landscape.
