"Telecoms Workers Set to Embark on Nationwide Strike Over Unfair Labor Practices

The Private Telecommunications and Communications Senior Staff Association (PTECSSAN) has announced plans to commence an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, citing unresolved issues with 39 telecoms servicing companies. The strike, which will involve critical staff such as field maintenance engineers, transmission engineers, and customer service engineers, may disrupt telecommunications services across the country if not promptly addressed.

PTECSSAN's demands include:

- Recognition of employees' right to associate with the union

- Recognition of the union as the negotiating body for workers' welfare

- Remittance of membership dues

- Recognition of workers' years of service

- Commencement of pension deductions and remittance

- Approval of the National Health Insurance Scheme

- Enrolment in Group Life Insurance

- Implementation of leave and leave allowance in accordance with international best practices

- Salary review to reflect current economic realities

- Provision of operational vehicles or review of self-drive/self-rental policies

The union had previously issued a seven-day strike notice to the affected companies, which provide critical support services to telecommunications operators in Nigeria. The strike is a result of unresolved issues, including the sack of three PTECSSAN members by Specific Tools & Technology Limited."
