By Achimi Muktar

In a bold step toward fostering unity and development in the South East, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshuffled key leadership positions within the South East Development Commission (SEDC). The move has sparked widespread praise, particularly from Mazi Chibuike Jonas, a prominent Abia State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jonas applauded President Tinubu for his decisive action, describing it as a milestone in addressing historical grievances in the South East and a major stride toward national unity and reconciliation.

A Step Toward Healing and Unity

Jonas emphasized that this reshuffle is the first significant move to heal the wounds of the South East since the Nigerian Civil War. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for prioritizing policies that aim to reintegrate the region into the national framework.

“This is the first major step towards healing in the South East since the civil war. Mr. President has shown his commitment to building a better and prosperous Nigeria, and we are grateful that he is carrying the South East along this path of progress,” Jonas said.

Jonas also hailed Tinubu for ensuring the SEDC Bill was passed into law, a landmark achievement that underscores the president’s goodwill toward the region.

Acknowledging a Key Ally: Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu

Jonas extended his commendation to Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, for championing the SEDC Bill. He credited Kalu’s dedication and political foresight for bringing the legislation to fruition.

“We are proud to have a pragmatic leader like Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu. He has built bridges in national politics and opened new doors of development opportunities for the South East. His love for peace and his people reflects his loyalty to President Tinubu’s success,” Jonas remarked.

The New Faces of SEDC Leadership

The SEDC reshuffle includes key appointments aimed at revitalizing the commission’s operations:

Dr. Emeka Nworgu replaces Emeka Atuma as Chairman.

Stanley Ohajuruka takes charge of finances.

Toby Okechukwu will oversee project management.

Chief Sylvester Okonkwo steps in as head of corporate services.

These changes are expected to enhance the commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate of regional development and integration.

A New Dawn for the South East

Jonas called on the people of the South East to rally behind President Tinubu and his administration’s vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

“The best way to repay Mr. President’s goodwill is through our unwavering support and patience as he works to unleash his full agenda for Nigeria, especially the South East,” he concluded.

This reshuffle not only signals renewed hope for the South East but also strengthens the region’s role in shaping Nigeria’s collective future. A new era of progress and inclusion has begun.
