Minna, the capital of Niger State, was thrown into mourning on Saturday, December 7, 2024, as news broke of the gruesome murder of a former permanent secretary in the Niger State Civil Service, Architect Adamu Jagaba. The 65-year-old was attacked and fatally stabbed by his 18-year-old car painter, Fatiyah Abdulhakeem, at his block industry along the Eastern Bypass.

A Calculated Attack

The Niger State Police Command revealed that Abdulhakeem had trespassed into Jagaba’s business premises under the guise of discussing vehicle repairs. In a sudden and premeditated act, the teenager stabbed Jagaba multiple times in the head and neck and struck him repeatedly with a stapler in his office.

After committing the murder, Abdulhakeem fled the scene, driving off in the victim’s Toyota Camry with registration number MNA 61 AE. Jagaba was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Arrest and Confession

By 7:00 p.m. on the same day, the police Crack Squad intercepted the stolen vehicle along Bosso Estate Road in Minna, leading to Abdulhakeem’s arrest. During interrogation, the teenager shockingly admitted to the crime, providing chilling details of his actions.

“I went to discuss changing the vehicle’s bumper but stabbed him several times with a knife on his head and neck and hit him repeatedly with a stapler in his office,” Abdulhakeem confessed.

The suspect further revealed that some of Jagaba’s workers had provided him with insider information, aiding the attack. Abdulhakeem also named accomplices, prompting the police to widen their investigation.

A Town in Mourning

The heinous act has sent shockwaves through Minna, where Jagaba was a respected figure known for his contributions to the civil service and business community. Residents and colleagues have expressed outrage and grief over the senseless killing.

Police Vow Justice

The Niger State Police Command has assured the public that all individuals connected to the crime will be apprehended and prosecuted.

“We are determined to bring everyone involved to justice,” the police stated in a detailed press release.

“The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead. Police operatives visited the scene and commenced investigations into the unfortunate incident.”

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigations

Abdulhakeem will be charged to court following the conclusion of the police investigation. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track down the accomplices implicated in the murder plot.
