Senator Marafa Vows to Slash Tinubu’s 2027 Votes by One Million
A dramatic political battle is brewing in Zamfara as former lawmaker, Senator Kabiru Marafa, has declared that he will strip President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of at least one million votes in the next presidential election.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Monday night, the fiery politician announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and vowed to rally disenchanted voters against the ruling party ahead of 2027.
“I Will Do It, By God’s Grace”
“I’m going to assure you something today. I’m going to deduct one million out of Mr. President’s votes that he got in 2023. Mark my words. I’m going to do it. I will work for it and by the special grace of God, I will succeed,” Marafa said in a defiant tone.
Marafa, who once served as Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in Zamfara State, accused Tinubu of practicing a “use-and-dump” brand of politics, claiming the President abandoned loyal allies after victory.
From Ally to Adversary
The senator dismissed claims that he had become politically irrelevant. “Whether they call me a paperweight or a lightweight, 2027 will determine who truly carries weight,” he insisted.
According to Marafa, widespread discontent in Zamfara has united leading politicians across party lines against the APC. He pointed to the shock victory of Governor Dauda Lawal, who, despite limited political experience, defeated powerful APC figures in 2023 — evidence, he argued, of voters’ growing anger.
APC’s “Monkey Work, Baboon Chop” Politics
Marafa accused Tinubu of failing to reform the APC’s internal reward system, which he described as corrupt and exploitative. He recalled Tinubu’s 2023 campaign promise to dismantle the unfair system popularized during Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
“People were already unhappy at the tail end of Buhari’s government. President Tinubu promised to eradicate the concept of monkey dey work, baboon dey chop. Instead, he entrenched it, institutionalised it, and turned it into state policy under the APC,” Marafa declared.
What This Means for 2027
Marafa’s vow signals deepening cracks in APC’s northern support base — particularly in Zamfara, a state where insecurity and poverty have amplified resentment towards Abuja. With Marafa now positioning himself as a rallying figure for disgruntled politicians, the stage appears set for a bruising battle ahead of 2027.
Whether he can actually take one million votes off Tinubu remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: Marafa is determined to test the strength of his political relevance on a national scale.
