In a daring operation, security agents rescued 20 medical students and seven others abducted by bandits in Benue State. The combined team of military, DSS, and police operatives tracked the kidnappers to Ajide forest, where a fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of one suspected kidnapper and the arrest of two others.

The students, from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were kidnapped while traveling to Enugu for a medical convention. Their abduction sparked widespread outrage, prompting the Inspector-General of Police to deploy tactical operatives and assets to ensure their swift rescue.

The rescue operation, coordinated by the National Security Adviser, involved land and air assets, including helicopters, drones, and tactical vehicles. The students were taken to Abuja and are undergoing medical checks at the National Intelligence Agency clinic.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that no ransom was paid for their release, praising the security agencies, locals, and ONSA for their commitment and resilience. The parents of one of the students, Kingsley Fagar, expressed relief and gratitude, having thought all hope was lost.
