As Nigerians celebrated Christmas with joy and cheer, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) launched a nationwide crackdown, apprehending 23 suspects involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and other criminal activities during the festive season.

The arrests followed a directive from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, who had earlier instructed commands and formations to adopt robust anti-crime strategies to ensure public safety during the holidays.

Lagos Bust: Hoodlums Caught in the Act

In Lagos State, a distress call alerted police operatives to a gang of hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons operating in the Safejo area of Amukoko. Acting swiftly, officers apprehended three suspects: Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18).

Recovered at the scene were weapons allegedly used to terrorize fun seekers in the area. The police have intensified their search for other gang members who fled the scene.

Kaduna: Kidnapper’s Christmas Ends in Handcuffs

In Kaduna State, police operatives from the Saminaka Division arrested Sule Muhammad (25), a notorious member of a kidnapping gang. The operation, conducted at around 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, also led to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle.

The suspect confessed to being part of a gang responsible for multiple abductions in the Saminaka area. His arrest comes months after other gang members were captured in August. Authorities are now working to apprehend remaining members and recover additional weapons.

Nationwide Efforts Yield Success

The festive anti-crime operations extended to other states, including Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, Imo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Police operatives across these regions recorded significant arrests, disrupting various criminal plots and ensuring public safety.

IGP Commends Officers’ Dedication

The Inspector-General lauded the officers involved in the successful operations, highlighting their vigilance and unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.

“This exemplary dedication has safeguarded our communities, allowing citizens to celebrate the holiday season without fear,” said Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The IGP also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities, assuring citizens that the Force remains steadfast in its mission to provide a safe and secure environment during the holidays and beyond.
