PLATEAU COMMISSIONS NEW MARKET TO BOOST ECONOMY.

A trading hub and a lifeline business environment designed to restore dignity and stability to traders especially those who were displaced in Jos/Bukuru metropolis has become a reality with the commissioning of the new Jos Metropolitan Development Board market in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. 


The new market according to Governor Caleb Mutfwang is in line with the administration’s people-centered approach aimed to address traders who were displaced from demolition of illegal structures, curb street trading, and process of maintaining clean and organised metropolis. 
At the commissioning ceremony, the Governor directed that allocation of shops in the market should prioritize displaced women and must serve as a channel of hope and opportunity for those who have long been disadvantaged.


The new market has 165 standard shops, 16 warehouses, 130 small local shops, 15 kiosks, 116 stores, open spaces to accommodate not less than 2,000 traders as well as designated bus and motor park as part of facilities for trading activities. 

“This event is particularly dear to my heart because it opens up far-reaching opportunities for the economic empowerment of our women and youth, who are the direct beneficiaries of this facility.”
“Let me emphasize once more: one of the key motivations behind this project was the desire to ease the suffering our women endure in search of decent trading spaces. I salute our mothers, the economic pillars of their families. We see your efforts. We value you. And we are committed to continuing to support you.” The Governor added.

General Manager of JMDB Architect Hart Bankat emphasised the significance of the market as a milestone in the collective efforts to enhance economic development, improve infrastructure, and provide a conducive environment for traders and marketers in Plateau State.


The General Manager restated the  commitment to creating modern, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure, stressing that the facility has been designed to meet the needs of both traders and shoppers, providing a clean, secure, and well-organized environment that will undoubtedly boost economic activities in the area.

The government has also commenced other important market project including building of Kugiya market, Jos Main Market, Mararaban Jama’a Market, and several neighbourhood markets across the state, especially in Shendam, Mangu, and Bassa local  to position Plateau State as a safe, organized, and attractive destination for commerce and investment both locally and globally.
