Oyo lawmaker, Akinremi dies at 51

A House of Representatives member, Olajide Akinremi representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State, passed away on Wednesday 10th of July, 2024.
Akinremi, aged 51, died after a brief illness.
The statement confirming his death by the spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, on Wednesday reads: "Until his demise, the Oyo legislator was a dedicated public servant known for his unwavering commitment to the development of his constituency and the country at large. His passion for service, coupled with his deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of his people, earned him the endearing title of Jagaban."
Akinremi first gained election into Nigeria's lower legislative council, the House of Representatives in 2019, enjoying his constituents supporting by further winning re-election in 2023.
In the buildup to the House leadership election in 2023, he indicated an interest in vying for the post of Deputy Speaker but later withdrew.
He also served as the Chairperson of the House Committee on Science Research Institutes.
The late Akinremi is the third member of the 10th House (2023-2027) to die. Two of his colleagues, Abdulkadir Danbuga died in October 2023, while Isa DogonYaro died in May 2024.
House plenary session on Wednesday was suggested to be postponed or adjourned early to mourn the deceased.
