Obi Slams FG’s N142bn Bus Terminals Project, Says Health Sector Deserves Urgent Funding

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised the Federal Government’s approval of N142 billion for the construction of six bus terminals across the country, describing it as a glaring case of misplaced priority.

In a post on his verified X handle, Obi argued that at a time when Nigeria’s health sector is underfunded and struggling, allocating such a huge sum to bus terminals reflects poor leadership and lack of focus.

“The difference between success and failure in national development lies in how scarce resources are prioritised. Approving N142 billion for bus terminals while the combined budget for all federal teaching hospitals and psychiatric centres in 2024 is under N100 billion is deeply troubling,” Obi wrote.

He stressed that health should be treated as a top national priority, noting that the World Health Organization recently reported that more than 20 million Nigerians are living with mental health conditions.

“Health is one of the most critical areas of development, yet it remains grossly underfunded. This decision is not only a misplaced priority but also a tragic irony for our country. This is not governance,” he added.
