Northern Youth Alliance for Good Governance Pulls Out of Protest - Read statement

Press Conference On the Planned Nation Wide Protest by the Northern Youth Alliance for Good Governance, NYAG.

23/07/2024

Gentlemen of the press.

We invited you here today in respect of the organized protest which has been scheduled to take place on the 1st of August 2024.

The Northern Youth Alliance for Good Governance NYAG, has been involved in mobilizing Nigerians around the country to partake in the said protest in order to find a way of calling the attention of the government concerning the untold hardship of the common Nigerians.

However, we want to inform the general public, that as a result of consultation between our members, we have decided to withdraw from any plans to go ahead with the protest, to safeguard our integrity and Nigerias national peace and security, which we believe is paramount. NYAG is therefore calling Nigerian to embrace dialogue.

News has reached us that there are political elements who are planning to hijack our planned protest and use it for their selfishness political agenda. They wish to turn the planned peaceful protest into a riot that May through Nigeria into worse conditions. Especially that we know there are desperate people who may justify looting and destruction of public property and businesses. The NYAF shall not be part of any such agenda.

We therefore call on fellow Nigerians to embrace dialogue, and encourage the government to engage stakeholders for a robust discussion to end the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerian. More effort must be made and more measures should be taken to improve the current situation of Nigerians. We believe President Tinubu is committed to the ongoing reforms and should be supported by all well meaning Nigerians.

In the north millions of our youth will return to agriculture once the security situation is brought under control.

NYAG remains committed to the welfare and wellbeing of the Nigerian people, and peace and security of Nigeria at large. We urge against any violent protest. We support dialogue
