By Achimi muktar

In a dramatic turn of events, the Nigeria Police Force successfully disrupted a clandestine meeting of bandits in Budon Forest, Kogi State, averting a potential attack. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Kogi State Command stormed the forest on Saturday, engaging the heavily armed group in a fierce gun battle.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the swift response led to one bandit being neutralized, while four others were arrested. The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, 30 rounds of live ammunition, and two motorcycles believed to have been used for criminal activities.

“The operatives were deployed immediately after we received actionable intelligence about the meeting,” Adejobi stated. “Upon sighting the police, the bandits opened fire, but our officers overpowered them, preventing a coordinated attack.”

Crackdown in Katsina State

In a separate operation the same day, police operatives in Katsina State thwarted another planned assault by suspected bandits targeting Ruwan Doruwa Village in Dutsinma Local Government Area. A distress call alerted the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters about the impending attack.

Security operatives, in collaboration with other agencies, intercepted the assailants and engaged them in a gunfight. Seven bandits were killed, while the rest fled, abandoning 109 rustled livestock, which have since been recovered.

Tackling Human Trafficking and Baby Factories

The Nigeria Police Force also reported significant progress in its fight against human trafficking and illegal baby factories. Over 207 abducted children have been rescued nationwide, including 14 minors aged between one week and seven years in Akure, Ondo State.

The Force disclosed that the Ondo State Police Command apprehended three suspects: Abosede Olanipekun, Lukman Isiaka, and Sabira Izuorah. The arrests followed a report about a missing child in Okuta Elerin-Nla.

“These arrests and rescues underscore our commitment to safeguarding vulnerable citizens,” Adejobi noted.

A Renewed Commitment to Public Safety

The Force reaffirmed its resolve to combat crime and protect lives and property across the country. “We remain steadfast in ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law,” Adejobi concluded, emphasizing the Force’s dedication to maintaining peace and security.

As bandits face increased pressure from security agencies, the recent operations highlight the importance of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration in securing Nigeria's communities.
