Mega Market Marvel: Gov. Ododo Unveils Lokoja’s $1B Vision for a Modernized Future

By Achimi muktar

In a bold step towards urbanization and economic growth, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo has launched the construction of the Lokoja Ultra-Modern Market. Situated on a sprawling 15-hectare site at the Crusher axis of the state capital, this ambitious project is set to redefine the commercial landscape of Lokoja.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Monday, was led by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Taiye Abanika, and his Works counterpart, Engr. Muhammed Yusuf. The officials emphasized that the market is a cornerstone of the Ododo administration’s vision to transform Lokoja into a 21st-century capital, fostering investment and development.

What Makes This Market Unique?

The Lokoja Ultra-Modern Market is not just another shopping center; it’s an architectural leap forward. Designed with state-of-the-art facilities, it aims to consolidate the city's seven smaller markets under one roof, promoting cleanliness, safety, and business efficiency.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, described the project as the final phase of the Lokoja Urban Renewal Project (LURP). “This market will revolutionize commerce in Lokoja, turning it into Nigeria's commercial hub,” Fanwo declared, adding that the project aligns with the state’s goal of leveraging its strategic location for maximum economic impact.

A Market for the Future

With a completion timeline of 36 months, the market promises to bring unprecedented benefits to the region, including job creation, a boost in local commerce, and enhanced infrastructure. Fanwo noted that relocating traders to the new market will reduce accidents and streamline operations in Lokoja. The current International Market will be repurposed into government warehouses and a Commodity Exchange Commission, marking a significant upgrade in city planning.

“This is not your typical market,” Fanwo said confidently. “Other states will replicate this model once they see its success here.”

Quality Assurance from Experts

The construction firm, Sazaz Acres Biloque Company (SABC) Limited, has been meticulously vetted to ensure the project meets global standards. Abdulrazaq Aliyu, representing the company, assured attendees of strict adherence to the contract and timely delivery of the project. “This market is just the beginning,” Aliyu said, expressing hopes of future collaborations with the state.

What’s Next for Lokoja?

Governor Ododo’s administration is setting the stage for Lokoja to become an urban powerhouse. From modernized transportation hubs to centralized markets, the capital is undergoing a transformation that reflects the administration’s commitment to serving the people.

As the construction equipment rolled in and the contract papers were handed over, one thing was clear: Lokoja is on the brink of a commercial revolution. This isn’t just a market; it’s a vision of prosperity.

Stay tuned as this project unfolds, turning Kogi State’s capital into a beacon of modernity and economic growth!
