Lagos Shuts Down Major Ikeja Road for APC Primaries — See Affected
By Achimi Muktar
Lagos residents, take note — a major traffic disruption is coming this weekend!
The Lagos State Government has announced a complete shutdown of ACME Road in Ikeja to all vehicular traffic on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds its party primaries at the APC State Secretariat.
The traffic advisory, released via the government’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, warns that motorists will be blocked from accessing ACME Road from Adeniyi Jones, Lateef Jakande, and ACME Crescent. The closure is aimed at ensuring maximum security and seamless traffic control during the high-stakes political event.
“Ahead of the APC Primaries... the entire stretch of ACME Road will be closed off to vehicular movement,” the statement read.
Plan Your Route or Stay Home
To help commuters navigate the disruption, the government has advised motorists to use alternative routes:
Those coming from Adeniyi Jones should switch to Aromire Street and connect through Allen Junction.
If you're approaching from Allen Avenue, detour via Aromire Street, link up with Ladipo Oluwole, and proceed through Guinness Road.
Commuters on Akilo Road can take Wemco Road, then head toward Lateef Jakande or Omole.
To reduce traffic gridlock, LASTMA officials will be deployed across the area to manage the flow and provide assistance.
Why This Matters
With the APC primaries expected to draw large crowds and media attention, the Lagos State Government is taking no chances. The temporary road closure is part of a broader effort to maintain law and order, ease congestion, and protect lives and property.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid the Ikeja axis unless absolutely necessary and to plan movements well in advance to avoid getting caught in delays.
One Day, Big Impact
While it’s just one day, the total shutdown of such a major route is sure to have ripple effects across Ikeja. Residents and commuters are urged to stay updated through official government channels and cooperate with traffic officials for a smooth and safe experience.
