Lagos is set for a transportation revolution as the state government and the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to kickstart the highly anticipated 68-kilometer Green Line rail project.

The ambitious project, designed to connect Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone, was unveiled by Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who described it as a milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.

“This landmark project will improve connectivity, ease movement, and boost economic activities between critical areas in Lagos,” Omotoso stated.

With N146.14 billion already earmarked from the Federal Government’s 2025 budget, this mega rail project is expected to transform Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ajah into high-speed transit hubs, drastically cutting travel time and reducing road congestion.

Omotoso also revealed an impressive list of completed and ongoing projects, proving Lagos’ commitment to urban transformation:

✅ 36 road projects completed in 2024, including new bridges, pedestrian infrastructure, and major link roads.

✅ 51 more roads under construction across Lagos, including the Arowojobe Link Bridge (Maryland), Platinum Road (Igbokusu), and Babafemi Dada Bridge (Yinka Folarin).

✅ Ongoing expansion of the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI), with new BRT terminals at Abule Egba, Iyana Ipaja, and Ajah nearing completion.

✅ Massive upgrades on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, with work in progress from Doyin Orile to Mile 2.

Omotoso also celebrated the launch of the 27-km Red Line rail project, linking Agbado (Ogun State) to Oyingbo (Lagos). Officially opened for passenger operations on October 15, 2024, the Red Line is expected to serve 500,000 passengers daily, seamlessly integrating with Ikeja, Oshodi, and Yaba terminals.

Meanwhile, work has begun on the second phase of the Blue Line, extending from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, bringing Lagos closer to a fully connected rail network.

With the Green Line set to redefine urban mobility, all eyes are on Lagos as the state pushes towards a modern, interconnected transportation system.
