Kaduna SDP Denies Collapsing Structures into ADC, Counters El-Rufai
Kaduna, Nigeria — The Kaduna State Chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has dismissed claims by former governor Nasir El-Rufai that its political structures in the state have been collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
In a statement on Monday, the party’s chairman, Adamu Idris, described El-Rufai’s remarks as “spurious and false,” insisting that the SDP remains intact and committed to repositioning itself as a credible opposition force in the state.
“SDP Structures Intact”
“Our structures are robust and alive across Kaduna State. We are committed to promoting the true interests of Nigerians and will not be distracted by El-Rufai’s attempts to sow division,” Idris said.
The party accused the former governor of deliberately attempting to create confusion, recalling that El-Rufai’s brief membership in the SDP was marred by internal wrangling and disruption. Idris added that peace and stability have since been restored within the party following El-Rufai’s exit.
Harsh Words for El-Rufai
The statement took a swipe at the ex-governor, describing him as a “non-democrat, self-serving desperado, unrepentant bigot and tyranny personified.”
Background
Over the weekend, El-Rufai and some opposition leaders announced during a strategic meeting that the SDP’s entire Kaduna structure had been dissolved into the ADC coalition, with El-Rufai positioned as a key player in the realignment.
The SDP’s rebuttal signals deepening cracks in opposition politics within Kaduna, as parties and political actors continue to reposition ahead of future elections.
