Kaduna Governor Behind Saturday’s Attack – El-Rufai Vows to Present Evidence
Kaduna Governor Behind Saturday’s Attack – El-Rufai Vows to Present Evidence
Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused his successor, Governor Uba Sani, of masterminding Saturday’s violent attack on opposition leaders during the inauguration of a joint transition committee in Kaduna.
The event, which was organized by opposition parties in the state, descended into chaos when suspected political thugs invaded the venue, assaulting participants and vandalizing properties.
Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday, El-Rufai alleged that the attack was not spontaneous but politically motivated, insisting that Governor Sani was directly responsible.
“I have evidence; Kaduna State Governor is behind Saturday’s attacks. I will submit evidence to the IGP and other authorities if they care to investigate,” the former governor declared.
El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna between 2015 and 2023, described the incident as another indication of Nigeria’s deteriorating security framework.
He lamented that security operatives were present during the attack but allegedly stood by while opposition figures were assaulted.
“The policing system has collapsed in Nigeria. Policemen were watching as thugs attacked us,” he added.
The allegations have intensified political tensions in Kaduna, where cracks between the former governor and his successor have grown increasingly visible in recent months.
Governor Uba Sani has yet to issue an official response to El-Rufai’s claims as of press time.
Observers warn that the confrontation could deepen existing divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna, with implications for both state and national politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
