Kaduna And Zaria Erupt In Chaos As Protest Intensify, N700bn Lost In 5 Days
"Kaduna and Zaria Erupt in Chaos as Protests Intensify, N700bn Lost in 5 Days
The nationwide protests against hunger and hardship in Nigeria took a violent turn in Kaduna and Zaria, prompting the state government to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew. Despite President Bola Tinubu's address to the nation on Sunday, protests continued in multiple cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Jos, Benin, Kano, and Zamfara.
According to the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON) and the Kano Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KACCIMA), the economic losses from the protests have exceeded N700 billion in just five days, with Lagos bearing the brunt at N600 billion and Kano losing over N100 billion.
In Kaduna, miscreants exploited the protests, looting shops and terrorizing citizens. Security operatives were initially overpowered by the hoodlums, but later regained control, dispersing the protesters and imposing a curfew. The situation remains volatile, with reports of continued violence and unrest."
