Job Scam Alert: Federal Civil Service Commission Denies Ongoing Recruitment
By Achimi muktar
In a decisive move to counter misinformation, the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has debunked claims circulating on social media about an alleged recruitment exercise. The commission described these reports as entirely false and cautioned Nigerians to remain vigilant against fraudsters exploiting the situation.
FCSC Dismisses Recruitment Rumors
Taiwo Hassan, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the FCSC, issued a statement on Thursday, clarifying that no recruitment process is currently underway. “The attention of the FCSC has been drawn to information making the rounds on various media platforms about advertised vacancies and recruitments in the commission,” Hassan stated.
“The commission unequivocally declares that the information containing the commission’s website, and the name of the director (recruitment and appointment), did not emanate from the commission. It is fictitious and should be disregarded.”
Official Channels Are Key
Hassan emphasized that any legitimate job openings would be announced exclusively through official channels, such as the commission’s website or recognized national newspapers.
He added, “We urge the public to remain cautious and verify all information from credible sources to avoid falling victim to imposters.”
A Growing Trend of Fake Job Scams
Fake recruitment schemes are a growing concern in Nigeria, with many fraudsters exploiting the desperation of job seekers. These scams often involve fake websites, forged documents, and promises of lucrative positions, all aimed at defrauding unsuspecting individuals.
Tips to Stay Safe
The FCSC advised Nigerians to take precautionary measures when confronted with job offers:
Verify announcements through official platforms.
Avoid making payments or sharing sensitive information in exchange for job offers.
Report suspicious activities to law enforcement or relevant authorities.
A Call for Public Awareness
As misinformation spreads quickly online, the FCSC's warning serves as a reminder of the importance of digital literacy and skepticism in an era of fake news. Citizens are encouraged to seek out accurate information and share it widely to protect others from falling prey to scams.
For verified updates, the FCSC directs all inquiries to its official website and reputable national media outlets.
