Plateau state-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has rallied support for President Bola Tinubu’s government, saying that cooperation with the administration is essential for the nation's progress.
Sheikh Jingir, who expressed his views on the current administration during a recent interaction with Chief Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to the President, emphasised the significance of unity and the need to transcend tribal and regional sentiments for the nation's progress.
"The reason I advocated for voting President Tinubu was to dispel negative sentiments of tribalism and regionalism. We are all from the same country. It was the colonial masters who divided us by giving us different names," Sheikh Jingir stated.
He further remarked on the inclusive nature of the government, highlighting that both Muslims and Christians benefit from its successes. "I called on the Muslim Ummah to vote for the Muslim-Muslim ticket, but today, is it only Muslims who are enjoying this government? Is it only Christians? No. If the government succeeds, we all benefit; if it fails, we all suffer."
Sheikh Jingir also condemned riots and protests, advocating for peaceful approaches to address governmental shortcomings. "I have never supported riots or protests—Islam does not support them. If you want to correct a government, doing so radically is not the right approach. Since my early years of preaching, I have never endorsed protests because they do not align with our teachings."
He shared his proactive stance on the deplorable condition of the Jos-Saminaka road, which has been neglected for over 25 years. Sheikh Jingir noted that instead of waiting for the government, the community decided to commence repairs themselves, which eventually prompted governmental intervention. "Fortunately, you understand the language of action. Now, not even two weeks later, the government is here to intervene."
Sheikh Jingir expressed gratitude for the government's action and the condolence visit on his brother's passing.
