Horror in Anambra: 74-Year-Old Woman in Wheelchair Burned Alive – Four Arrested, Boyfriend at Large"

In a shocking act of brutality, police in Anambra State have arrested four individuals for allegedly setting a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair ablaze in the Ifitedunu area. The heinous crime, which unfolded around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, has sent shockwaves across the community.

Among those arrested is a 21-year-old woman, Chinyere Ekwenugo, who reportedly conspired with others to execute the gruesome act. Also in custody are Uzochukwu Okeke, 47, Fidel Anayo, 60, and Ikenna Anene, 54, all from Abagana.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga revealed in a statement that Ekwenugo confessed during interrogation, implicating her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, as the mastermind. Igwe, currently at large, allegedly coordinated the attack alongside three accomplices.

“They brought a casket to bury her before the intervention of security operatives,” Ikenga said, painting a grim picture of premeditation.

Recovered from the scene were the charred remains of the elderly victim, her wheelchair, and the casket intended for her burial.

The victim’s body has been deposited at a morgue for an autopsy as authorities work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding her death.

Anambra State Police Commissioner, Nnaghe Itam, condemned the act, urging the public to remain calm. He ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.

The manhunt for Igwe is underway, with police vowing to bring him and any other culprits to justice.

This horrifying incident serves as a chilling reminder of the depths of human cruelty, leaving the community and the nation grappling with questions about the motives behind such a senseless act.
