The entertainment world is grieving the loss of Dalyce Curry, a veteran actress celebrated for her roles in classics like The Blues Brothers and The Ten Commandments. The 95-year-old’s life came to a tragic end in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires that ravaged her Altadena home.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

Curry’s remains were discovered after flames consumed her residence, Forbes reported. Her great-granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, confirmed the heartbreaking news on Facebook on Sunday, January 12.

“About an hour ago the coroner confirmed her remains were indeed found at the property. #RIPMOMMADEE,” Kelley wrote, expressing profound grief. “We had a great run. She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”

According to Kelley, she had dropped her beloved grandmother—affectionately known as “Momma D”—at home late Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning, she returned to check on her, only to be met with devastating news at a barricade: the house had been reduced to ashes.

Desperate for answers, Kelley searched through shelters at the Pasadena Civic Center, where displaced residents had gathered, but her hopes of finding Curry alive were in vain.

Remembering a Hollywood Icon

Curry’s family remembers her as vibrant and full of life, defying her age. “She was very active,” said her granddaughter Loree Beamer-Wilkinson in an interview with ABC7. “You would not think she was 95.”

Curry’s illustrious career left an indelible mark on Hollywood. Known for her grace and unforgettable performances, she inspired generations of fans and actors alike.

A Community Devastated

As of January 12, the Los Angeles wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives, leaving families and communities in mourning. The disaster has highlighted the vulnerability of the region to increasingly severe wildfires.

A Legacy That Lives On

Dalyce Curry’s legacy extends far beyond her on-screen achievements. Her family’s tributes reflect the profound impact she had on their lives. “She was a beacon of light in our family,” Kelley said.

As Hollywood and the world bid farewell to a legend, Curry’s contributions to film and her enduring spirit will continue to resonate with those she touched.

The tragic loss serves as a somber reminder of the human toll of natural disasters, urging communities and leaders to prioritize safety and prevention in the face of a changing climate.
