Governor Adeleke Jets Off to the U.S. for Davido’s Star-Studded Miami Wedding
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has traveled to the United States to attend the high-profile white wedding of his nephew, global music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his wife Chioma Avril Rowland.
The much-anticipated ceremony is set to take place in Miami, Florida, this August, marking the couple’s official church wedding after years in the public spotlight. Davido had earlier confirmed the Miami wedding plans during his appearance on The Breakfast Club radio show in April 2025.
The Governor’s trip—via the family’s private jet—has stirred political conversation back home. Critics, particularly from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), questioned his sudden absence from the state without a formal handover to his deputy.
But in a swift response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, clarified the reason for the trip and addressed the opposition's concerns.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States a few days ago to attend the wedding of his beloved nephew and international superstar, David Adeleke,” Rasheed said.
“His Excellency extends an open invitation to members of the opposition to join the Adeleke family in celebrating this joyful event—whether physically or virtually.”
Rasheed further defended the Governor’s record, noting that Adeleke had not taken any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022. He assured the public that this trip would be short and that the Governor remains in regular communication with Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi, who is overseeing the state’s affairs in his absence.
“This is a private, family-centered engagement. The Governor is still attending to critical matters remotely and remains committed to his responsibilities,” he added.
The clarification comes after a statement by APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi, who criticized the Governor’s unannounced absence and alleged that no formal power transfer was made to the deputy.
“People are whispering across motor parks, markets, and buses—asking where their Governor has been,” Olabisi said.
“Osun citizens deserve transparency. Was power properly handed over to the Deputy Governor in accordance with the constitution?”
Despite the political uproar, excitement continues to build around Davido’s Miami wedding, expected to draw celebrities, dignitaries, and family members from across the globe.
