In a sweeping move aimed at bolstering governance and institutional efficiency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of board chairpersons for 42 federal organizations, alongside key managerial positions in critical agencies.

The announcement, made through a statement by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized that the appointments align with the administration’s agenda to enhance performance across various sectors. The appointees were urged to respect their roles as non-executive leaders, steering clear of day-to-day management duties.

High-Profile Appointments in Strategic Agencies

Among the notable appointments, former Kano State Governor and current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, will now chair the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Similarly, Senator Magnus Abe has been named Chairman of the National Agency for the Great Green Wall, a body tackling environmental challenges in arid regions.

In another high-profile nod, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi will oversee the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), reflecting the administration’s focus on technological innovation and resource management.

Political Allies Take Center Stage

The appointments also feature key figures within the APC’s hierarchy. Senator Surajudeen Bashiru Ajibola, Secretary of the ruling party, now heads the National Sugar Development Council, while H.E. Sulaiman Argungu assumes the role of Chairman at the Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

Other notable names include Hon. Hillard Eta as Chairman of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi as Chair of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs.

Strengthening Public Services

The appointments extend into education, health, and infrastructure. Hajia Zainab A. Ibrahim will lead the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe, while Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole takes charge at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti. Dr. Kayode Isiak Opeifa, a respected figure in public administration, has been named Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.

Governance with a Vision

President Tinubu’s appointees have been tasked with bringing transformative leadership to their respective organizations. By entrusting these roles to individuals with vast political and administrative experience, the administration aims to accelerate institutional reforms and deliver tangible results to Nigerians.

As these appointments take immediate effect, all eyes are on the new leadership to navigate complex challenges and deliver on their mandates in a manner that reflects the Tinubu administration’s commitment to transparency and progress.
