FG Rolls Out N4 Billion Cash Transfer Program for 10 Million Vulnerable Families
By Achimi muktar
In a bold move to alleviate poverty and support displaced families, the Federal Government has announced a N4 billion conditional cash transfer program aimed at reaching at least 10 million vulnerable households across Nigeria.
A Lifeline for the Most Vulnerable
The initiative, unveiled by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, during the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) in Abuja, will run from February to April 2025.
“We are prioritizing women, especially widows, pregnant women, and those with disabilities,” Professor Yilwatda stated. “These groups face unique challenges, and this initiative aims to address their needs.”
Focus on Displaced Communities
Targeting displaced families, particularly in the conflict-ridden Northeast, the cash transfer program seeks to provide immediate relief while fostering long-term resilience. Beneficiaries will receive financial aid to help meet basic needs and rebuild their lives.
Empowering Farmers for Food Security
In addition to the cash transfer program, the government has approved N2 billion for interest-free loans to rural farmers. Households will receive loans ranging from N300,000 to N400,000 to enhance food production and promote self-sufficiency.
These agricultural loans aim to tackle food insecurity while empowering rural communities to thrive economically.
Integrated Approach to Humanitarian Needs
The 2025 HNRP addresses pressing humanitarian concerns in conflict-affected areas, including Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States. Professor Yilwatda highlighted that the plan incorporates humanitarian, developmental, and peacebuilding strategies to provide sustainable solutions for affected communities.
“This is more than just immediate aid—it’s about fostering resilience and creating long-term opportunities for vulnerable groups,” the minister said.
A Commitment to Poverty Alleviation
These programs underscore the government’s dedication to reducing poverty, improving livelihoods, and addressing the needs of displaced persons and other at-risk populations nationwide.
As the initiatives roll out, they promise a lifeline for millions, offering hope and tangible support in challenging times.
