FAAN Suspends Abuja Airport Gate Charges Amid Traffic Woes

In a move to ease traffic congestion and provide relief to travelers, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the suspension of all access gate fees at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

The suspension, which takes effect from Friday, January 24, 2025, will last until Friday, February 7, 2025, offering a two-week window of free access to the airport.

In a statement issued on Saturday, FAAN spokesperson Obiageli Orah explained the decision, citing ongoing construction works as the primary reason for the traffic challenges faced by airport road users.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that all access gates at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, are suspended to alleviate the traffic burden on our airport road users,” the statement read.

FAAN expressed its understanding of the inconvenience caused by the construction activities, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing the travel experience. “We deeply empathize with the inconvenience caused by the ongoing construction and remain committed to ensuring a smooth travel experience for all road users,” the statement added.

Travelers and commuters alike are expected to benefit from the temporary suspension, as it eliminates an additional layer of cost and frustration amid the already challenging traffic conditions around the airport.

FAAN’s decision has been met with praise from many road users who hope this move will significantly reduce delays and improve access to one of Nigeria’s busiest airports.

As construction efforts progress, FAAN assures the public that measures are in place to minimize disruptions and maintain safety standards. For now, airport users can enjoy free access, but FAAN encourages travelers to plan their journeys ahead to accommodate any potential traffic delays.

This suspension serves as a reminder of FAAN’s commitment to passenger comfort and its willingness to adapt to challenges to improve overall service delivery.
