El-Rufai Warns ADC Vanguard: Stop Fabricating Quotes in My Name

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a stern warning to the political support group, ADC Vanguard, cautioning them against attributing false statements to him.

In a post shared on his official X handle on Thursday, El-Rufai stressed that he has his own platforms to air his opinions and would not tolerate fabricated remarks being circulated under his name.

“Dear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions.

I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith,” he wrote.

The former governor’s reaction followed a now-deleted post by ADC Vanguard, which falsely quoted him as describing President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “Nigeria’s most corrupt and dishonest government” that had “mastered the act of looting shamelessly while deceiving confidently.”

Group Backs Down, Issues Apology

In response to El-Rufai’s rebuttal, ADC Vanguard tendered a public apology, admitting fault and promising to uphold integrity in future communications.

“Dear Mallam El-Rufai, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you. We respect your voice and your platforms as the proper channels for your views,” the group stated.

The group further pledged to rely strictly on verified and authentic sources moving forward, while also appreciating El-Rufai for addressing the issue “clearly and respectfully.”

This incident adds to the growing concerns over fake quotes, manipulated posts, and political misinformation circulating on social media, particularly as Nigeria’s political space heats up ahead of future elections.
