"Dust, Clouds & Thunderstorms: NiMet Issues Urgent 3-Day Weather Warning!"

Get ready for a hazy and cloudy week as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecasts a three-day spell of dust haze, cloudiness, and localized thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook, released in Abuja on Tuesday, the northern and North-Central regions should brace for slight dust haze throughout the forecast period. Meanwhile, the southern region will experience hazy conditions with patches of clouds, alongside the possibility of early morning mist and fog over coastal cities.
🌪️ What to Expect – Day by Day Breakdown
🔹 Wednesday:
Northern & North-Central regions – Slight dust haze expected all day.
Southern region – Hazy conditions with cloud patches; early morning mist/fog in coastal areas.
Later in the day – Localized thunderstorms likely in Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, and Delta States.
🔹 Thursday:
Dust haze persists over northern and North-Central regions.
Southern region – Cloud patches with morning mist/fog over coastal areas.
Afternoon and evening hours will remain hazy with cloud patches.
🔹 Friday:
Slight dust haze for most of northern and North-Central Nigeria, but Kano, Katsina, Yobe, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto will experience moderate dust haze.
Southern region – A continuation of hazy skies with cloud patches.
⚠️ Health & Safety Warnings
NiMet strongly advises Nigerians to take precautions, especially people with respiratory conditions like asthma, as dust particles will remain suspended in the air.
The agency also warned of strong winds preceding thunderstorms in affected areas and urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe flight planning.
