Dubai-Based Human Trafficker Nabbed in Abuja After Years on the Run

By Achimi Muktar

A notorious human trafficker, Uadiale Christiana Jacob, also known by aliases Christy Evan Osagie and Christy Gold, has been arrested at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, marking the end of her years-long evasion of justice.

The convicted trafficker, who operated an international human trafficking syndicate exploiting Nigerian girls in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, had been on the run for over five years. Her capture on December 31, 2024, was facilitated by officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) during routine checks as she arrived in Nigeria to celebrate the New Year with loved ones.

The Journey of Deception

Christy Gold was a key figure in a human trafficking network notorious for recruiting and forcing young Nigerian girls into prostitution in Dubai. NAPTIP investigations revealed that she coordinated operations from the UAE, with accomplices across Nigeria handling recruitment and transfers.

In 2020, Christy was arrested in Benin City and charged to the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State. She was granted bail but absconded to Dubai, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for her arrest in November 2021.

Despite her absence, the wheels of justice kept turning. In March 2024, Christy was convicted in absentia by Justice F.A. Olubanjo of the Federal High Court in Asaba. Her sentencing awaited her inevitable recapture.

The Capture

Luck ran out for the fugitive when immigration officers flagged her during a routine check. Acting on NAPTIP’s 2023 watchlist request, NIS operatives identified and arrested her upon her arrival from Dubai. She was handed over to NAPTIP for prosecution.

A Web of Accomplices

NAPTIP’s statement revealed that Christy’s syndicate had other key players still at large, including Michael Nduka, Osas Wiseman, and Vivian, as well as a so-called Prophet John in Lagos. The agency assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend these collaborators.

NAPTIP Speaks Out

Binta Adamu Bello, the Director General of NAPTIP, lauded the NIS for their vigilance and collaboration in apprehending Christy Gold. She emphasized the importance of inter-agency efforts in combating human trafficking.

“This arrest is a strong message to other members of this international criminal gang: you can run, but you can’t hide forever,” Bello said. “We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for victims of trafficking and exploitation.”

A Warning to Human Traffickers

Bello also highlighted NAPTIP’s resolve to dismantle human trafficking networks in 2025. “We are more determined and will be more decisive this year to fish them out and ensure the protection of Nigerians from trafficking, exploitation, and violence.”

A Wake-Up Call for Nigeria

Christy Gold’s arrest serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against human trafficking. Her capture and pending sentencing offer hope that justice can be served, even against the most elusive criminals.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to NAPTIP, helping to safeguard vulnerable individuals and bring perpetrators to justice.
