The recent flood in Borno State has resulted in devastating consequences, with at least 414,000 people displaced and 30 reported dead. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that the flood, which began after the Alau Dam overflowed due to heavy rainfall, has affected over 23,000 households.

The agency has established nine internally displaced persons (IDP) camps across the state to accommodate those affected. NEMA spokesman Manzo Ezekiel stated that the death toll has reached 30, with approximately 414,000 people displaced.

The flood has ravaged major city locations, including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, the state secretariat, post office, cemetery, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. However, reports indicate that the water level has receded in some areas, including Modugari, Custom, Kofar Shehu, and Post Office.

Residents have expressed optimism about returning home soon, with one resident stating, "I went to my compound this morning, and the water has reduced. It was previously at my chest level but now at my knee level. With this, we hope that the flood will not last long."

Vice President Shettima has described the flood as a "national calamity" and assured that the federal government will partner with states to address the issue. The President has approved the release of N3 billion to each state to address the challenges posed by the flood.

The Speaker of the National Assembly has commiserated with the President, Vice President, and the government and people of Borno State, assuring them that the National Assembly will provide support to address the situation.
