Benue’s Political Reset: Governor Alia Dissolves Cabinet in Sweeping Shake-Up
"Benue’s Political Reset: Governor Alia Dissolves Cabinet in Sweeping Shake-Up"
In a bold political maneuver that signals a new chapter for Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has dissolved the entire State Executive Council, relieving all commissioners and key appointees of their duties.
The announcement came at the conclusion of the 12th State Executive Council meeting for the year, where Governor Alia addressed the outgoing officials. His decision was formally conveyed through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, who confirmed the dissolution to journalists in Makurdi.
Effective immediately, all commissioners have been directed to hand over the reins of their ministries to the respective permanent secretaries. Governor Alia extended his gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members, acknowledging their two years of service and urging continued loyalty to the administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“To those who may not return, your exit creates space for others to bring fresh perspectives and serve the state,” the governor noted, suggesting that the shake-up is part of a broader strategy to refresh the administration’s energy and vision.
In a simultaneous development, the governor appointed Mr. Moses Atagher—a seasoned legal practitioner and two-time former Attorney General of Benue State—as the new Chief of Staff. He replaces Mr. Paul Biam. Atagher’s resume includes stints as Commissioner for Justice and acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, making him a well-rounded choice for the strategic role.
Reacting to the dissolution, Mr. Bemsen Mnyim, the outgoing Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, expressed gratitude on behalf of his colleagues.
"Every call to serve is a learning curve," Mnyim said. "We’ve gained invaluable experience, and we remain committed to the progress of Benue."
Governor Alia’s decisive move marks a pivotal moment for his administration, as citizens await the unveiling of a new cabinet expected to drive the next phase of the state’s development agenda.
