BREAKING: Kano Transport Commissioner Ibrahim Namadi Steps Down Amid Drug Bail Scandal

In a swift political development, Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Ali Namadi, has resigned his position, following an investigation into his alleged role in securing the controversial bail of a suspected drug kingpin, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

The resignation came just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received a report from the investigative panel looking into Namadi's involvement in the case. The move is widely viewed as a major stride in the state government’s ongoing efforts to uphold transparency, accountability, and moral responsibility within public service.

According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the embattled commissioner cited public interest and the gravity of the matter as his reasons for stepping down.

“As a member of an administration that has remained vocal and firm against drug abuse and trafficking, I feel compelled to take this painful but necessary decision,” Namadi declared.

Although he maintained his innocence, the former commissioner acknowledged the significance of public trust and perception.

“While I have not committed any wrongdoing, I cannot ignore the weight that public opinion carries—especially when it involves issues tied to the values we are striving to uphold,” he said.

Namadi expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Yusuf for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve, and reaffirmed his loyalty to the ideals of good governance and ethical leadership.

“As a committed citizen, I must continue to protect and promote the integrity of this administration. I remain loyal to the vision that brought us into office and the trust we have earned from the people of Kano,” he added.

Governor Yusuf has accepted the resignation, thanking Namadi for his service and wishing him well in his future undertakings. He reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related offenses and its commitment to protecting the youth from societal vices.

The Governor also issued a stern reminder to all political appointees, urging them to exercise discretion and seek approval before engaging in matters of public concern, particularly those that touch on sensitive issues.

“We must always act with caution and integrity. Public office is a trust that demands discipline and adherence to our shared values,” Governor Yusuf emphasized.

The resignation marks a defining moment in Kano’s political landscape as the administration doubles down on accountability and reinforces its commitment to justice and ethical governance.
