BREAKING:

BREAKING: Gov. Alia Dismisses Cabinet, Names Barr. Moses Atagher as Chief of Staff in Major Shake-Up

In a sweeping political move that signals a fresh direction for Benue State governance, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has officially dissolved the Benue State Executive Council.

The announcement came at the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council meeting of 2025, where the Governor disclosed that the dissolution affects all serving Commissioners. However, other appointments outside the Commissioner cadre remain intact.

As part of this reshuffle, Governor Alia has appointed seasoned legal expert and two-time former Attorney General, Barr. Moses Atagher, as the new Chief of Staff. Atagher, whose appointment takes immediate effect, brings a wealth of administrative experience to the role, having also served as the acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

In a statement, the Governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing Commissioners for their two years of service, noting that while some may not return in the next cabinet, their exit opens the door for new individuals to bring fresh energy and ideas to the administration.

“I thank all those who served diligently. Those who may not be reappointed should remain committed to our shared goals within the party structure,” Alia stated.

Outgoing Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim, spoke on behalf of the dissolved cabinet, thanking the Governor for the opportunity to serve. “Service is a learning experience. We have grown, and we leave with gratitude,” he remarked.

All affected Commissioners have been directed to hand over responsibilities to their respective Permanent Secretaries immediately.

Governor Alia’s decision is widely seen as a strategic reset, potentially setting the stage for a revamped executive team to drive the state’s development goals into the second half of his administration.
