Academy Trains Doctors, Other Professionals in Clinical and Business Intelligence
Lagos, Nigeria – The D’BusinessDoctor (DBD) Mentorship Academy, in partnership with KB Klub, College of Medicine, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has graduated a new set of young healthcare professionals equipped with the dual skills of clinical excellence and business intelligence.
The ceremony, held in Lagos, marked the conclusion of a 12-week intensive programme designed to bridge the gap between medical training and the practical demands of leadership, management, and entrepreneurship in Nigeria’s health sector.
Building Beyond Clinical Skills
Founded by healthcare business consultant Dr. Ademolu Owoyele, popularly known as D’BusinessDoctor, the academy was established to “open the eyes of young healthcare professionals to the business side of medicine” and inspire innovation in the country’s health system.
“Our vision is to raise professionals who not only heal but also build,” Dr. Owoyele said, noting that the graduates’ resilience and creativity reflect the academy’s mission of transforming healthcare leadership.
Since its inception in 2017 through Harley and Wall Healthcare and Business Consulting, the academy—working with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Association for General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria—has trained hundreds of professionals to think strategically, lead effectively, and build sustainable enterprises.
Industry Leaders Weigh In
National Vice President of the NMA, Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, congratulated the graduates, stressing that the sector urgently needs leaders who can combine clinical knowledge with business acumen to drive innovation.
Investment banker and Director of Group Sales at Vetiva Asset Management, Mr. Biodun Oke, also addressed the cohort, highlighting the importance of financial intelligence, resilience, and entrepreneurial vision.
“Doctors and healthcare professionals must learn to think like business leaders if they want to transform the sector,” he said.
Trailblazers for the Future
The graduating class, christened the “DBD Trailblazers,” received certificates of completion. Bolaji Ogunyade was presented with the Most Outstanding Leader Award for exceptional dedication and initiative.
Graduate Amari Moyinoluwa described the mentorship as “a transformative experience” that challenged her to think bigger, work smarter, and step outside her comfort zone.
Sustaining the Health Sector
With Nigeria’s healthcare system under pressure from limited infrastructure, brain drain, and funding gaps, the DBD Academy positions itself as a model for rethinking how professionals are trained—not only to save lives but also to sustain and innovate the institutions that deliver care.
