APC: Presidential Ticket Open to All, Despite Tinubu’s Endorsement
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured party members that its 2027 presidential ticket remains open to all aspirants, despite widespread endorsements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by party organs and stakeholders.
This was disclosed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the outcome of the August 16, 2025 legislative by-elections, which the APC described as a resounding success.
Tinubu Endorsed, But Doors Not Shut
Argungu explained that while the APC leadership, along with several state governments and zonal structures, had endorsed President Tinubu as the party’s likely standard-bearer in 2027, the democratic space within the party remains open.
“The aspiration of the people would be the wish of the party. As leaders of the party today, the NWC has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our candidate. But that does not mean the door is closed,” Argungu said.
He stressed that the APC would provide equal opportunity for any member wishing to contest in the primaries.
“Like we have always done, when the time comes, we will release a timetable. Anyone who wishes to contest will be free to purchase forms and exercise their franchise. We have never said, at any time, that the door is shut to other aspirants. We only appreciate what Mr. President is doing for the good of this country,” he added.
Celebrating By-Election Victories
Highlighting the party’s performance in the recent legislative by-elections, Argungu said the victories underscored the growing trust and confidence Nigerians have in the APC.
“These victories are not just statistics; they are a reaffirmation of the trust Nigerians continue to place in the APC. They reflect the strength, resilience, and nationwide acceptance of our party, as well as the belief in our ability to deliver purposeful leadership and good governance,” he said.
Interactive Session with Lawmakers
Looking ahead, the APC announced plans to host an interactive session with all elected Senators, House of Representatives members, and State Assembly legislators in Abuja.
According to Argungu, the engagement will:
Provide a platform to share ideas and strengthen trust.
Help chart a common legislative and political agenda across national and state levels.
Reinforce alignment with the vision of the APC and the expectations of Nigerians.
Commitment to Renewed Hope Agenda
Argungu reaffirmed the party’s commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring Nigerians that both the President and the APC remain steadfast in delivering on their promises.
“The APC-led federal government will continue to deliver dividends of democracy and uphold the trust placed in us by the people. We remain dedicated to their welfare, security, and prosperity,” he concluded.
