ADC Surges Past 800,000 Members in Rivers, Welcomes Amaechi, Secondus, and Other Political Heavyweights

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State says it is experiencing an unprecedented surge in political influence, boasting over 800,000 registered members and drawing some of the state’s most recognisable political figures into its ranks.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday, the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Luckyman Egila, described the ADC as “a beautiful bride” attracting high-profile politicians across party lines.

Among the latest additions, Egila named two former governors—Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia—as well as former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus. Senators Lee Maeba and Andrew Uchendu, the latter currently serving as ADC Vice Chairman for the South-South, have also joined the fold.

“These are not mere associates,” Egila stressed. “They have officially registered, received their membership cards, and are now full members of the ADC.”

Other notable figures who have crossed over include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Dr. Abiye Sekibo.

Egila maintained that the party’s expanding influence is built on strong grassroots structures in every local government area and community in Rivers State.

“We have grown from where we were to over 800,000 members, and the number keeps increasing daily,” he said, adding that more high-profile defections from other political parties are expected in the coming days.

Dismissing any rumours of internal wrangling, Egila declared the ADC “united, disciplined, and committed to integrity,” vowing that no act capable of bringing the party into disrepute would be tolerated.

The spokesman also reminded the public that the ADC had long been an active player in the state’s politics, contesting the 2023 elections and securing significant support from Rivers people.

“We are a moving train,” Egila said confidently. “Politically, there is no one capable of stopping the ADC from claiming whatever ticket or office we set our sights on in Rivers State and across Nigeria.”
