In a bold move to tackle Nigeria's housing deficit, Barms and City Real Estate Limited has announced plans to build affordable homes for civil servants and business owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The company’s ambitious project is set to kick off in 2025, with a massive 10,000 hectares of land already secured in Kuje, a growing suburb of Abuja.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Zircon Luxury Estate in Abuja, Bala Muhammad, the Chief Executive Officer of the real estate firm, highlighted the dire state of housing in the nation’s capital, where a staggering 65% housing deficit continues to hinder access to affordable living spaces.
Muhammad emphasized that the project is targeted at middle-income earners, particularly civil servants and entrepreneurs, with flexible financing options designed to make homeownership achievable for all.
To deliver affordability, Barms and City Real Estate Limited has partnered with key financial stakeholders, including:
The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN): Offering housing loans up to ₦50 million.
The Federal Housing Loan Board: Providing loans of up to ₦10 million.
Sterling Bank: Offering alternative financing with flexible payment plans tailored to individuals’ financial capacities.
“This project ensures affordability by allowing individuals to pay in small installments, making homeownership accessible to both salaried workers and business owners,” Muhammad said, adding that the company remains open to collaboration with the Federal Government to bridge Nigeria’s housing gap.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes affordable housing and the development of Renewed Hope Cities across the nation.
Muhammad underscored the urgency of such projects, noting: “Out of every ten Nigerians, only three are homeowners. This underscores the pressing need for innovative solutions to ensure more Nigerians have access to affordable housing.”
A Step Towards Development
Wife of the Katsina State Governor, Fatima Radda, commended the project, calling it a significant step towards the development of Abuja Municipal. “This initiative will not only bridge the gap between government and private organizations but also advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for housing in the FCT and beyond,” she said.
Similarly, Jemila Musa, Managing Director of Barms and City, described the company’s vision as groundbreaking. “This year has truly been remarkable for us. With six projects simultaneously under construction, we have pushed boundaries, embraced innovation, and continued to set new standards in real estate development.”
Unveiling the firm’s flagship five-bedroom terrace duplexes, Musa declared, “These homes are not just structures—they are an experience, a celebration of luxury and modernity tailored for those who demand nothing but the best.”
As Abuja continues to grow, this ambitious housing project promises to not only redefine homeownership for civil servants and business owners but also set a new benchmark for affordable luxury living in Nigeria’s capital city.
