"Cracks Emerge in Planned Nationwide Protest as Key Groups Withdraw Support"

A planned nationwide protest against the rising cost of living and economic hardship in Nigeria has suffered a significant setback as several key groups have withdrawn their support or distanced themselves from the movement.

The protest, scheduled to take place between August 1 and 10, aimed to bring attention to the country's economic woes using hashtags like #TinubuMustGo, #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, and #Revolution2024. However, some groups have cited concerns about the potential for chaos and hijacking, while others have expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu's ability to implement economic reforms.

Among those who have pulled out or distanced themselves from the protest are:

- Coalition of Northern Youth Leaders' Forum

- Northern Ethnic Youth Group Assembly (NEYGA)

- Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore

- Jigawa branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)

- Students Union

- Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)

- Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF)

- Coalition of Concerned Northern Youth and Students

The Presidency has also warned that those planning the protest will face strong resistance, describing their actions as an attempt to "burn down the country".

As the protest's momentum appears to be waning, it remains to be seen whether the remaining groups will be able to sustain the movement and bring about the desired change.
